Why L-Theanine Should be in Every Cup of Coffee

Do you ever find yourself feeling jittery after your morning cup of coffee

Or maybe you need another cup by midday just to keep going?

If this sounds familiar,  trust me . . .  you’re not alone.

Because so many folks have these issues, we at STRONG Coffee made it our mission to create a coffee that combats issues like I mentioned above.

But how did we do it? How did we manage to create the perfect cup?

While we can’t give you all of our secrets, we can tell you this - there’s one major ingredient that plays a huge role in all of the problems that I just mentioned.

It's called  L-Theanine - an amino acid found in tea leaves that can be combined with caffeine, and when done, has been proven to show some great benefits.

 In this article, we’ll explore:

  •  What L-Theanine is
  • What does it do to your brain?
  • Why you should consider adding it to your daily routine.

What is L-Theanine?

L-Theanine is an amino acid that is naturally found in tea leaves. Particularly found in black and green tea, L-theanine is a powerful supplement that researchers have been studying for years.

Research found that there are many benefits that L-theanine has to offer (i wouldn’t be writing about this if it didn’t). Here are just a few benefits of L-theanine:

  •  reducing anxiety
  •  improving cognitive function
  •  promoting relaxation without causing drowsiness
  • Improved sleep
  • Increased energy

The list of l-theanine abilities and potential benefits goes on and on ( I’ll get into this later), but for now, let’s look at what it does to your brain.

What does it do to your brain?

When l-theanine enters your body, it is first absorbed in your gut. Once processed by your small intestine, it then crosses the blood-brain barrier.

From there, l-theanine causes an increase in chemicals like serotonin, dopamine, and GABA.

These chemicals all play vital roles in regulating mood, keeping your body relaxed, and improving your focus and memory.

Because of this, studies found that L-theanine has a powerful ability to combat anxiety and stress.

This is great, but why does all of this matter . . . ?

(In other words, what does this have to do with us, we’re a f*cking coffee company?)

For folks that are sensitive to caffeine, its no secret that having one too many cups can potentially cause increased anxiety.

With these folks in mind, we asked ourselves, “What could we add to our coffee to eliminate those caffeine jitters and stresses?”

In other words, we wanted to know: how can we create a coffee that enhances focus and energy, without pushing you over the edge.

Luckily, we found our answer . . .

Benefits of L-Theanine and Caffeine together?

Yep, you guessed it, our answer was combining caffeine with  150 mg of L-theanine in every cup of STRONG Coffee.

L-theanine has been proven to be a great equalizer to the effects of caffeine.

Think about it - caffeine acts as a stimulant, enhancing alertness, concentration, and energy levels. On the other hand,  L-Theanine acts as a depressant, calming your nervous system down and promoting a state of calm and relaxation.

So, add those two together and what do you get?  A smooth boost  in energy and focus with no jitters or crashes.

We’re not the first to experiment with combining l-theanine and caffeine. Studies show that supplementing caffeine with L-theanine has many proven benefits, some of which I’ve listed below:

  1. Increased Focus and Concentration: L-Theanine and caffeine work together to improve cognitive performance, which can lead to increased focus and concentration.

  2. Reduced Anxiety and Jitters: L-Theanine’s calming effects can reduce the anxiety and jitters that can come with caffeine consumption.

  3. Improved Mood: L-Theanine has been shown to promote relaxation and improve mood, which can lead to a more positive outlook on life.

  4. Increased Energy: Caffeine is a stimulant that can increase energy levels, and the combination of L-Theanine and caffeine can enhance this effect.

  5. Better Sleep Quality: L-Theanine has been shown to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality, which can lead to a more restful night’s sleep.

Where You Can Find It

Now to answer the million dollar question: Where can you find L-theanine?

Here are a few different places you can naturally find l-theanine:

  1. Green tea: L-Theanine is naturally present in green tea. It's found in the leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis.
  2. Black tea: Although green tea contains a higher concentration of L-Theanine, black tea also contains this amino acid in smaller quantities.
  3. Supplements: L-Theanine supplements are widely available in health food stores, online, and in pharmacies. They can be in the form of capsules, tablets, or powders.
  4. Matcha: Matcha is a type of green tea that has been ground into a fine powder. It contains a higher concentration of L-Theanine than regular green tea.
  5. Mushrooms: Some types of mushrooms, such as Boletus badius, also contain L-Theanine.

STRONG Coffee: As i mentioned earlier, every cup of STRONG Coffee contains 150 mg of L-theanine, making it easy to get a good dose in with your coffee.
